Outdoor Fountain Care Tips

Here are some outdoor fountain maintenance tips you should follow to keep it in good shape.

Do you have an outdoor fountain around your yard? If so, there’s a good chance it has become one of the highlights of your yard. It makes perfect sense, though, because outdoor fountains are great for relieving stress while also giving your yard a big boost in appearance. Considering all of the good an outdoor fountain can do for you, you’ll want it to stick around as long as possible.

To do this, you’ll have to take good care of it. This means regular maintenance is required, and we want to make sure you’re following the right maintenance procedures to care for your fountain. Here are some outdoor fountain maintenance tips you should follow to keep it in good shape.

Give your Outdoor Fountain Monthly Cleanings

There are many factors that can cause your fountain to become dirty. The outdoors bring dirt, animal droppings, leaves, and more. To keep your fountain in good shape, you should clean it once per month. Use something that won’t damage the surface of the fountain when you’re cleaning it. A nonabrasive sponge or a soft cloth should be perfect for the task. Just be sure to turn your fountain off, take out the pump, and remove the fountain’s water before you begin the cleaning process.

Take Good Care of Your Pump

The pump is an important component of your fountain, so you’ll need to keep it clean. Cleaning your pump should involve using a wet toothbrush so that you can scrub off debris without damaging the pump itself. After you’ve scrubbed off everything you can, use a little water and soap so you can get the exterior of your pump cleaned as well. Lastly, get your cover replaced, then get the pump attached to your fountain again.

Get Rid of Any White Residue You Find

White scale is an issue for outdoor fountains, and it happens when too much calcium is allowed to pile up due to hard water. If you want to clear this white residue away, you have to turn your fountain off, and then use a cloth soaked with white vinegar to wipe away all of the debris. Once you’ve done that, simply start running water through your fountain again, and you should notice the white spots coming off.
