Whether you are designing your dream landscape or just need to fix up an area, it is essential to include drainage in the discussion. When we come out during the initial consult, we will ask you questions about drainage. We will want to know how long it has been an issue and what you have tried to do to rectify it.
As far as drainage is concerned, we look at four (4) main factors that may be contributing:
Trees/Shrubs
Are trees/shrubs causing excess shade? Do they put excessive debris in gutters or on the ground? Are their roots causing issues with the grade?
Gutters and Downspouts
Are they a sufficient size? Do they get clogged often? Has there been damage to them? Do they need to be re-configured?
Grading
Are there low spots around the foundation or in the yard? Are you catching runoff from your neighbors? the road? Have drains failed?
Sump Pumps and Condensate Lines
Do you have a sump pump? How often does it run? Where does it discharge? Has it failed? Does your condensate line run into the sump pump or directly outside?
Sometimes there are several different solutions to a problem or problems. During the consultation, we can discuss these with you along with their pros and cons.
