Addressing Problems With Your Patio

Addressing Problems With Your Patio

Here are problems that could affect your patio and ways to resolve these problems.

We’re getting into warmer weather now, meaning many people are spending more time enjoying time on their patios. A patio is the perfect spot to unwind after a long day or enjoy get-togethers with loved ones. Eventually, however, your patio is going to start running into some issues. Knowing how to address these issues is imperative to your patio’s longevity. Here are problems that could affect your patio and ways to resolve these problems.

Your Patio Has Mildew, Mold, and Algae

Over time, especially when your patio is exposed to moisture, you’ll start seeing mold, mildew, and algae pile up. Some homeowners try to ignore this problem, but it needs to be addressed immediately because it won’t be long before your home’s interior will be affected as well. Mold, mildew, and algae threaten people’s health, so you need to clean it off of your patio the moment you see it.

A light degreaser is recommended for the job, such as dish soap. Apply it to a bristle brush and scrub all of the affected areas. Afterward, address whatever is left with either a hose or a power washer. If soap and water are ineffective, mold remover can also help. You can find it at many home improvement stores. Just check to be sure it’s meant to be used on patios.

Your Patio Has Cracks

Any cracks in your patio have to be addressed as soon as you find them. Cracks can start off as small, but they will quickly grow and cause bigger problems if ignored. If your patio is made from tiles, simply replace the affected tiles. Many homeowners purchase spare tiles ahead of time for when this situation presents itself. If you think you need help with the replacement, feel free to get professional help. This option is much safer than trying to install new tiles yourself because professionals have been installing tiles for years. Also, any company worth hiring will offer a warranty for the replacement, so your money is guaranteed to result in a successful project.

Weeds

No one likes seeing weeds pop up on your patio. The easiest way to address weeds is to stop them from growing from the start. To do this, sweeping your patio can go a long way. If weeds are already on your patio, you can address them in a few different ways, such as spraying them with white vinegar or a pressure washer. Crack scrapers are also handy because they can get to the roots of your weeds and keep new ones from growing.
