Are you ready for the cold weather? There’s no better time than the present to prepare your outdoor living spaces for the cold weather so you can enjoy your favorite spot in the house year-round. If the patio is your sanctuary or party destination, here’s how to enjoy your patio in cold weather.
Cold Weather Patio Ideas
Gather Around a Fire Pit or Fireplace
Of course the best way to enjoy your patio in cold weather is to have a heat source to keep you warm. And at the same time, people love to sit around a fire, so why not install a fire pit or a fireplace? A fire feature will bring the warmth, be a focal feature, AND a conversation piece/starter.
Use Comfortable Outdoor Seating
Avoid barebone furniture with no padding at all in cold weather. Use outdoor seating with cushions to help you keep warm. Maybe add pillows and heavy blankets for ample comfort and warmth. This is sure to keep your guests comfortable and outside.
Keep It Cozy Underfoot
You don’t have to stop there. Add a thick outdoor rug to add color and warmth underfoot. With a rug, your feet will have padding against the cold patio. Rain or shine, day or night, cold or hot, an outdoor rug helps define an outdoor living zone and adds style.
Soak in a Hot Tub
You can insulate your body heat with blankets and cushions or get warm sitting around a fire, but you could also submerge yourself in warmth, particularly in a hot tub. Soaking in a hot tub is something you can do year-round and has many health benefits. It also makes a great social activity!
Add Ambient Lighting
Add lighting so you can enjoy your patio into the cold, dark evening! Outdoor bistro lights are a classic, as well as down lights and wall-mounted lights. The right lighting can make your patio a cozy place in summer or winter, and it can extend your use time by hours!
